• We are Vikings!

As the new school year approaches, my hope is that staff, students and families have enjoyed spending time with loved ones and taken time to “sharpen the saw” (relax and recharge) for the upcoming year. Over the summer, district staff has been busy preparing for the new school year while our buildings and grounds have received updates. I am excited to welcome everyone back for another rewarding school year at Pelican Rapids schools!

During summer break, district teachers have been updating curriculum, reviewing state standards, learning new teaching strategies, and attending technology trainings. Inside district buildings, exciting updates have occurred which include new interactive Promethean Boards in each classroom, updated HVAC control systems and added more school-safety security cameras. Outdoor improvements include paved parking lots to the following areas: Chauncey Martin Complex, Fine Arts Auditorium and Viking Elementary School. For added security around district school grounds, outdoor lighting was also installed at the parking lots.

During the upcoming fall workshops, staff will be attending trainings on the following educational topics: Cross Cultural & Inclusion, School Law, Mental Health, 7 Habits/Leader in Me, First Aid and CPR, as well as School Safety protocols. These professional staff development trainings will provide skills and knowledge to help staff create and maintain positive and safe learning and working environments.

Throughout the school year, district staff will focus on district priorities set by the administration and school board. Primarily, students and staff safety are district priority. Additional district priorities include the following:

    • Community Engagement
    • Educating the Whole Child
    • Increasing Student Achievement
    • Maintaining Sound and Transparent Financial Practices

In closing, I would like to thank district students, families, staff, school board and community members for the continued support of our schools. I am excited for the new school year which will offer great learning opportunities for all students at Pelican Rapids Schools. Go Vikings!
