You are invited to an art celebration honoring the 42 elementary student artists whose artwork was selected to be made into banners for downtown Pelican Rapids. The art celebration party will take place Thursday, July 10th from 4-5pm at the Public Library. A sneak peek of a few of the banners is shown above. This project, Blooming Banners by Budding Artists, was our final project of our school year and was made possible by a grant from Spring Board for the Arts and Artists on Main Street.
An overview of the project:
All students Kg- 6th grade created a piece of art representing our local nature. It needed to be an open composition and students had the choice to use oil pastels, watercolor paint, colored pencils, tissue paper, acrylic paint or crayons. Once complete, 42 pieces were selected by myself, our Pelican Rapids Park Board, and artist Paul Johnson. These pieces were scanned and sent to Lana at Hillbilly Laser. She then added the edging that states Welcome to Pelican Rapids (Welcome is written in many different languages found within our city). Lana will also be printing all 42 banners. The banners will be hung on the street lights around town at the end of June. These banners will be up year round (other than during Peteville).
A list of students whose artwork was selected is below. Students will get a letter in the mail congratulating them and inviting them to the ceremony.
