Viking Girls Sweep Trojans

The Pelican Rapids softball team completed a double header sweep over the Barnesville Trojans on Thursday, winning 14-13 and 17-11.
The Viking (4-4) girls will host Ottertail Central (2-6) at 5:00pm Friday in Pelican Rapids.
Viking Girls Clip Warroad for Second Win

The Pelican Rapids Softball team earned their second victory of the 2019 season by defeating a solid Warroad team by the score of 5-4 in the Frazee Tournament on Saturday, April 27. Eighth-Grader Sylvia Pesch pitched a complete game (7-innings) to earn the win. She only walked one batter and struck out 3, while allowing 8 hits. Her teammates played well defensively and made the routine plays.
Offensively, the Vikings were led by Holly Bergquist (2 Hits, 1 Run), Emma Haugrud (2 Hits, 1 Run, 1 RBI), and Kiera Booth (4 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI). Next on tap for the Viking nine will be a Heart O’ Lakes Conference doubleheader in Barnesville on Thursday, May 2, with the first pitch scheduled for 4:00pm. On Friday, May 3 the Bulldogs of Ottertail Central will make the trip to Chauncey Martin field to take on the Vikings at 5:00pm.
Pelican Rapids Girls Win Slugfest in Ashby

The Vikings had 11 hits as a team, led by seniors Sarah Thompson (3H, 3R) and Grace Peterson (2H, 2R). Sophomore Holly Bergquist had two hits and scored three runs. Eighth-grader Sylvia Pesch started for the Vikings and threw five innings to earn the win. Bergquist came on in relief to get the six-out save, preserving the Pelican Rapids win.
Pelican Rapids broke a 15-15 tie in the sixth inning. Ashby had 15 hits in the game. They were led by Kyra Aamot, Madison Bestul, Brynn Krupke, Anna Thormodson, Kalista Aamot and Josey Ness, all of whom had multiple hits. Kyra Aamot went 3-for-5 at the plate and three Ashby players stole at least two bases with Amelia Barry leading the way with four steals.
