    Q & A

Are the kids scheduled to go back to school the 27th?

We are faced with a rapidly evolving situation which no one has experience. This morning, March 17th, our teachers began the process of planning to resume instruction for our children through distance learning.

As stated in Dr. Richardson’s letter from March 15th, Governor Walz closed Minnesota public schools from Wednesday, March 18th - Friday, March 27th for teachers to plan for distance learning. At this point, we do not know when classes will resume at our schools. However, our teachers and staff are working diligently to plan for and deliver instruction to support our children.

Why aren’t meals being delivered until March 24th?

As you can imagine planning, ordering, and receiving products for meals and containers that are transportable takes some time. The fact that our Food Services will be ready on March 24th to provide breakfast and lunch to students at home is remarkable.

Are all children eligible for meal delivery?

Yes, all children to age 18 in our school district are eligible for meal deliveries during normal school days. Please complete the Google form using the link below to sign your child up. Meals will be delivered to 5 general locations in town and directly to rural home beginning March 24thhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfMik7rU5jS4ax40YWIW3lWvxSE5sWnRzSci7vSs445P1u2WA/viewform?usp=sf_link

    What is distance learning?

Students engaging in distance learning have access to appropriate educational materials and receive daily interaction with their teacher(s).

We do not have internet access. What is my child supposed to do?

Teachers are planning instruction for students with and without internet access.

Please contact your cable, internet, or cell phone provider. Many of these companies are working to provide access to families so our children have access to learning opportunities.

My child’s ipad/laptop is at school. How do we pick it up?

Part of our planning this week is to create a schedule of times for parents & students to pick up laptops and ipads from school. Dates and times for scheduled pick-up will be published on our website and Facebook page toward the end of the week (March 20th) Our Tech Team is also preparing laptops to be issued to 7th & 8th graders, so that all students in grades K-12 will have a device for learning.

    March 16

As you may have heard, Governor Walz issued an Executive Order for schools to close from March 18 – March 27. This morning we made the decision to also close on March 17 as based on CDC guidelines on gatherings of no more than 50 people that we are unable to accommodate.

We have a plan to deliver school breakfasts and lunches for students needing them. You will find information on how to sign-up on the Pelican Rapids Public Schools Facebook Page or our website (https://www.pelicanrapids.k12.mn.us/). There will be information about Club Vikes posted shortly as well.

    March 15

Consistent with Emergency Executive Order issued by Governor Walz, the Pelican Rapids Schools will be closed from Wednesday, March 18 - Friday, March 27, 2020. All activities and programs will be cancelled beginning on Monday, March 16 except for Club Vikes, which will be open for all emergency health care and law enforcement children. As details are worked out by district leadership we will continue to post updates on the district Facebook and website pages. Please be assured that the safety and well-being of our children, staff and community continue to be our first priority as we make plans to provide a safe learning environment.
